My friend Jymette asked if I would help her throw a baby shower for our friend who is expecting her second baby boy. When we sat down to talk about it we both agreed on the theme of mustaches and bow ties. There is nothing cuter than welcoming a new a little gentleman with mustaches and bow ties!
I was trying to keep the budget low and the decorations easy. At the time I agreed to do the shower I was also in the middle of trying to sell our home and move, so I wasn't sure how much time I would really have to invest. We went with aqua, orange, navy and gray because that is what the mommy-to-be is doing her nursery in. I am happy with the outcome, although I forgot the tissue paper poofs that were supposed to hang about the table- which was a huge bummer. Oh well!
As I was wandering the aisles of Target one day I came across orange washi tape with mustaches on it. Obviously I had to purchase this. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it, but I knew I could use it somewhere. Here's what I did.

I used two bamboo skewers, gray yarn and folded the tape over the yarn to create little mustache flags. I cut the bottoms in a v-shape.
I picked up orange, navy, aqua and gray yarn to create a banner. I always do random crochet projects so I know it will get used. It looked a little plain on the wall by itself so I added twisted orange ribbon below the garland.
For parties I usually stick to cupcakes. However, I kept seeing these "naked cakes" all over Pinterest and I thought it would be a good way to use more color. I went with chocolate, blue velvet cake. and orange frosting. I used box cake mix and pre-made frosting (convenience).
Rather than using flowers I decided on oranges in tin pails from the dollar store. Not only did they look nice- my family could eat them later!

Jymette was in the charge of the candy bar station. She found the cute printable in the frame and provided all of the jars and candy. I used my galvanized pail to add height the jars in the back.
For the food I kept it simple with fruit salad, pinwheel sandwiches, salami/cheese/olive kabobs and pasta salad. Jymette was in charge of the games and we played baby bingo, tried to guess what baby items were in a bag and decorated bibs with bow ties! It turned out to be a great shower!
All the best,
