My husband's birthday is on October 29th. I love this. Not only do I have an excuse to throw a Birthday party- but a Halloween party! This year he went as Fabio (it was great!) and I was a flapper. This costume was actually from two years ago for the last Halloween party I threw. However, it arrived on my doorstep the day after the party. It worked out though because I didn't have to worry about what to be this time! Enough with the costumes... on to the details!
For the menu- I made a tomato cheese tortellini soup and shredded chicken tacos with the crock pot. It was very cold this year for the trick-or-treaters, so I wanted to have something to warm my guests up. I also had a cheese plate, "bone" bread sticks, chips and dip, olives, brownies. and veggies. Side not on the brownies... they are from scratch and so easy and so yummy to make!! You can find the recipe here :

The kids loved the "bone" bread sticks and the cheese plate. The cheeses were cut with Halloween cookies cutters into a cat, pumpkin and ghost. I also put pepperoni, salami and prosciutto with the cheeses.
I thought maybe if the veggies were shaped like a jack0o-latern the kids would eat them up. Of course, that is not the case. I mean, it is Halloween and the only thing on their mind is candy.
Next, I will show you some of the decorating I did.

I found some candy corn lights half off at Lowe's, so of course I had to purchase them. Wasn't sure what I was going to be using them for but I knew I would find a way! I ended up putting them in a apothecary jar that is usually filled with more neutral decoration for our home. I think it turned out pretty cute.
In the picture below, you can see that I hung some plastic bats above the skull in a small cake dome.

My son had a pirate birthday a two years ago and I had bought this pirate skeleton for it. Came in handy this year! On the wall I used a door cover, streamer and balloons. It was very cheap to do and I think it added a lot.
I usually like to make tissue paper poms poms to hang, because I just love how they look. However, I do find them to be time consuming and annoying to make. So a cheaper and faster solution was to just use the streamer I already had to give some color to the space, I also placed pumpkins on the tall counters, placing two of them in a pair of old lace tights I didn't wear anymore. Here's a closer look of the pumpkin... and Fabio.
Lastly, I leave with the drink area. Because it wouldn't be Halloween without your "poison".
